Leeds United and Barnsley FC receive FA fines for League Cup flashpoint

Leeds United have been fined £25,000 and Barnsley £7,500 for a confrontation involving players of both sides during their League Cup second-round tie at Elland Road.

A challenge by Barnsley's Liam Kitching on Leeds defender Cody Drameh 67 minutes into the game led to a confrontation between the pair which players from both sides joined in with.

Both players were booked for their parts in the incident but the following day Whites coach Jesse Marsch said how pleased he had been to see it because Drameh's team-mates had come to his support without, in his eyes "crossing the line". Even so, both clubs admitted a non-standard charge.

Marsch is also on a Football Association misconduct charge for using improper language and/or behaviour when he was sent to the stands after asking referee Robert Jones to review a penalty-area tackle on Crysencio Summerville by Aaron Hickey during Saturday's 5-2 defeat to Brentford.

Marsch has until Friday to answer that charge, and faces a touchline ban from Monday's Premier League game at home to Nottingham Forest.
