A64 closure: Major Yorkshire road to be closed for 'number of hours' due to serious crash

North Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and crews from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are all at the scene of a crash on the A64 btween the A162 for Tadcaster and the A1(M) junction 44 due to the crash.

National Highways, the agency which looks after motorways and major roads in Yorkshire, said the road is expected to be closed for ‘a number of hours, for an investigation’.

The agency said: “The A64 in North Yorkshire is closed westbound between the A162 (Tadcaster) and the A1M J44 due to a collision. Emergency services including North Yorkshire Police are in attendance.

“National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.”

A diversion has been put in place, and diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol:

Driving West, exit the A64 using Askham Bryan Junction offslip road and proceed to the end of the slip road.

At the junction, turn left onto A168 and proceed along this road for approximately 6 miles to the roundabout with the Local Access Road.

At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto A1237 and proceed along this road for approximately 5 miles to the roundabout with the A59.

At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A59 and proceed along this road for approximately 15 miles to the link road for the junction with the A168.

At the junction, turn right onto the link road for the A168 and proceed along this road for approximately 200m to the junction with the A168.

At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Local Access Road and proceed along this road for approximately 2 miles to the roundabout with the A661.

At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Local Access Road (Boston Road) and proceed along this road for approximately 1 mile to the roundabout with the A659.

At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Local Access Road and proceed along this road for approximately 2 miles to the junction with Local Access Road (Thorner Road).

At the junction, turn left onto Thorner Road and proceed along this road for approximately 100m to the junction with the Local Access Road (which merges with Spen Common Lane).

At the junction, turn right onto Local Access Road and proceed along this road for approximately 2 miles to the junction with the A1(M) Motorway (Junction 44).

At the junction, motorist to use Advance Direction Signing for directions to the A1(M) (Southbound) or the A64 (Westbound).
