A quarter of all deaths in Yorkshire and the Humber are caused by cardiovascular disease.

“Too many of us have been affected by heart diseases,” the charity Heart Research UK says. “We know many of you have devastatingly lost loved ones, have heart conditions yourselves or care for someone who does.

“Heart Research UK wants to see a future where there are no more deaths from heart diseases, but we need your support to get there!”

October is Make a Will Month! Writing a Will is often something you put off, but it is so important to write your Will and ensure your loved ones are taken care of when you are no longer here. It’s also an amazing way to support great causes like Heart Research UK.

Why should you consider leaving a gift to Heart Research UK in your Will?

Because gifts in Wills have the power to change the future and stop heart diseases taking so many lives. Every five minutes someone dies from heart diseases in the UK and it’s likely they will impact your life one day, if they haven’t already.

We need to tackle this problem head on, and we need to start today. Heart Research UK is a charity that focuses on developing lifesaving medical research to find new treatments and cures, delivering ground-breaking training and education, and helping communities to improve their heart health. Heart Research UK says 86 per cent of its work is funded through gifts in Wills.

“If like us, you want a future free from heart diseases, please leave a gift in your Will to Heart Research UK. We won’t stop, until there are no more deaths from heart diseases,” they added.

Is heart disease a problem in Yorkshire?

Unfortunately, yes. Yorkshire and the Humber has one of the highest death rates for cardiovascular disease in England, killing 1 in 4 people in the region. Heart Research UK are currently funding 10 research projects in Yorkshire, such as developing a patch that repairs the heart after a heart attack that reduces the risk of further attacks and heart failure. They’re also researching the long-term effects of vaping on the heart. Without gifts in Wills, they wouldn’t be able to fund this vital research that will save many lives.

Tragic loss of partner at just 59

We’d like to introduce you to Steve. Leeds resident Steve is leaving a gift in his Will to Heart Research UK. Steve remembers the day he lost his beloved partner Jackie. It felt like a normal evening. Steve had been out with Jackie when she started feeling unwell. She went home, and Steve told her to ring him in the morning to make sure she was okay. But she never called. “My soulmate had suddenly died from a heart attack.”

Jackie was only 59 when she died and is among approximately 23,000 women who die from coronary heart disease every year in the UK. Steve wanted to do something to remember Jackie by, he said, “It seemed quite natural to create a legacy in favour of Heart Research UK in my Will.”
